Special Teams
- The most important Units (8) in the program
- Why? These Units control field position and change the momentum of the game
- There are 88 Positions/Opportunities for players to enter the field and affect the game
- On average, a special teams play occurs once every 4 plays; a player can in theory play 25% of the snaps
- Our strongest, fastest, most physical players are on special teams
- Specialty Units match the Philosophies that are employed on both Offense & Defense
- We employ an aggressive/attacking style that puts extreme pressure on the opponent
- Odds of winning the game greatly increase when an additional possession is created by special teams
- We will force our opponents to alter their lineup, consider scheme changes and allocate extra practice time
- We emphasize the importance of each player and their role inside the Unit
- Our special teams practice plans are very efficient and operated at a rapid pace; matching our Offensive & Defensive Philosophies
- Special Teams individual practice is critical for teaching the skills that will be employed by each particular Unit
- Overall, great special teams bring success! Work to turn the ball over, win field position, execute at 100%, play with extreme aggression and have FUN!
Defense
- We employ an aggressive, gap control style that is designed to create turnovers, end possessions, win field position and adjust to any offensive formation/scheme
- Our most physical players play Defense
- We focus on teaching technique, body control, explosion, hands, hips, feet and physical play
- Tackling is our top priority; we practice all styles in a safe and controlled environment
- We use multiple fronts, stunts & coverages; our players must be great students when learning how to be multiple and fast!
- We take calculated risks to move our opponent off schedule and force them to do things that are out of their comfort zone
- Front
- Correct alignment, stance, take off, strike, squeeze, depth, course and control
- Must be athletic and able to transition
- Second Level
- Correct alignment, assignment, read, reaction and control
- Must be athletic; dual responsibilities to defend the run and pass
- Secondary
- Correct alignment, communication, footwork, read and reaction
- Our coverages are varied to confuse; yet our techniques are visually consistent
- Must be athletic; pass defenders that transition quickly to run stoppers
- Front
- All Levels of our Defense have similar criteria and must fit within the scheme to be successful
- Play Fast, Tackle Physically and have FUN!
Offense
- Our Offense is a multiple formation, tempo, spread attack
- We will work to be balanced; however this will be determined by our players abilities
- Why the Spread?
- It allows you to utilize your athletes in a multitude of different ways.
- We are not bound by the run or pass; flexibility is determined by the situation and style of athlete
- We do not fit players into our system; rather, we fit our system to our players
- It allows you to communicate quickly and play fast, which puts pressure on your opponent
- It simplifies your blocking schemes, which allows you to focus on technique
- It allows you to create space for your athletes to operate with in
- It is exciting and attractive for all styles of athlete
- How is the Spread different from other offensive styles and sets?
- The Spread allows you to incorporate any style into your plan of attack; it is limitless
- It can be easily adjusted to handle the style of your opponent
- The run game; the Option will always be utilized with in our scheme; allowing us to dictate who is being attacked and how they are being attacked
- There are several different ways to run the option from a Spread Formation
- Blocking advantages can be created by releasing the "read" and outnumbering your opponent at the point of attack
- The running game is created, adjusted and dictated by the style of runner and strength of the offensive line
- The pass game; the Spread allows you to stretch and attack all parts of the field
- Formations and motions allow you to create favorable match ups
- The short passing game can be an extension of the run game; high percentage throws
- Blitzing is controlled by formations, spacing, blocking scheme and the ability to throw hot
- The Spread is fast paced, exciting, explosive and most of all, FUN!
